The Valenzuela City police recued 26 children working in an allegeld sweat shop after a raid at a factory owned by a Filipino Chinese business in barangay Arkong on Teusday.
Supt. Nemesio Neron, chief of the business City police said the rescued children, with ages ranging from 12 to 15, are now in the custody of the Social Welfare and Development.
Neron said the plice conducted the raid on the factorty, that makes sago and owned by businessman Benjamin Co at Palasan Street, San Diego Subdivision in barangay Arkong Bato. Co was not in the factory during the raid.
Investigatorssaid the raid was made after 63 other children working in the factory esaped recently and sought the assistance of the Department of Labor and Employment. The case was later referred to the Social Welfare Department and the Valenzuela police.
The children complained that the maltreated them besides the low salary they get.
Neron said the police will file charges of child abuse and violation of the labor code against Co.
