TRAFFICKING, RISKY JOBS COMMON, PHILIPPINE AGENCY SAYS

South Africa is emerging as a key player in the trafficking of children for sexual exploitation, a parliamentary report has found. It found not only the gangs, brothel owners, syndicates and agents were involved but parents as well. At the Parliamentary Hearings on the Sexual Abuse of Children, it emerged that South Africa did not have legislation that prohibited the trafficking of people, although protection from sexual exploitation comes through several pieces of legislation. The hearings are expected to pave the way for new legislation to protect women and children from trafficking and sexual exploitation. (PANA)
