THORNTON, Colo. — A 3-month-old child died at a Thornton hospital Monday as a result of suspected child abuse, police said. An 18-year-old man was arrested shortly after.

Thornton Police Officers found the infant not breathing and unconscious after arriving at the home located in the 9100 block of Gale Boulevard.

Paramedics transported the infant to a local hospital where the child was pronounced deceased. Medical staff stated that the injuries to the child were described as non-accidental trauma.

Police later arrested Isaiah Marquez on child abuse charges. Police said Marquez is the mother’s boyfriend, and is not the father of the victim.

The cause of death will be determined by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.
