People’s Recovery, Empowerment and Development Assistance (PREDA) Foundation
is an organization dedicated to the protection of children and working for social transformation and a just and corrupt free society.
The projects, which are all outlined below, each have their own separate budget, bank account and bookkeeping for transparency and verifiable accountability.
For children accused of crime, helping victims of physical and sexual harassment and abuse. Providing research and legal assistance in the prosecution of their abusers.
Rescuing children and youth trafficked to brothels and helping victims of domestic physical and sexual abuse. The project provides residential shelters with best practices care, therapy and recovery for the victims. The Preda social workers rescue children from sexual abusive situations in home or in the streets and brothels.
This project is providing residential homes for girls complete with a therapeutic recovery programme with emotional expression therapy and family therapy counseling. It builds up the child’s self-esteem, confidence and personal dignity. It empowers them to stand for their rights and seek justice. There is also formal and non-formal education provided, values formation, rights training, all based on affirmation and mutual respect.
Many people can understand when youth make foolish mistakes. Many teenagers, especially impoverished, under-educated, and victims of physical and sexual abuse, can live on the streets, fall into temptation, and may do misdemeanors because of hunger and being abandoned.
The Juvenile Justice Welfare Law, which Preda helped draft and pass, is not implemented correctly by law enforcement, and many police wrongly see the street youth as vermin.
Without family to help and protect them, they are frequently arrested and jailed without charges or trial. They suffer abuse in the youth jails. Some are in danger of summary execution by anti-drug death squads. Preda has campaigned for their rights to be respected.
While continually campaigning for their rights and welfare, Preda takes direct action to rescue them from sub-human jail conditions and bring them to a safe Preda home. There they receive full support, education, value formation, and Emotional Release Therapy to overcome the pain and suffering of childhood abuse and are reintegrated into a safe environment. They receive legal assistance to bring charges against their abusers, and they are empowered to liven independent life of dignity.
Education for girls is one of the most important forms of prevention of human trafficking, child sexual abuse, and teenage pregnancies.
Prevention is equally important as cure and Preda Foundation public education team provides specialized integrated workshops and training seminars by a Preda team. They conduct seminars through-out the Philippine provinces in elementary and high schools, reaching teachers, duty bearers, social workers and community leaders oh human rights and dignity and for the prevention of child abuse and human trafficking reaching thousands every year. The speakers some former victims of abuse and trafficking also participate in public seminars university and public conferences and give interviews to media.
dissemination through articles, pamphlets, newsletters, public speaking engagements, global awareness building in the Philippines and abroad, through media (radio and TV), and working with journalists and broadcasters. By using the internet and networking with NGOs and other agencies here and abroad for lobbying governments, letter writing campaigns etc. the impact is multiplied. By mass mail outs and extending through other partner web sites and mailing lists and the media many hundreds of thousands are reached. International awards strengthen the credibility of the data.
Preda is campaigning through the media by raising public awareness and protesting the abuse of children by on-line sexual abuse over the internet. Preda cares and heals very young children 6 to 10 year old children victims of on-line sexual abuse in it’s children’s home.
It is certified as a Fair Trade organization by World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) with the official name PROFAIRTRADE Development Agency SC Ltd. on the WFTO Registration Certificate.
Economic development for poor communities through Preda fair trade mango fruit projects combats poverty and hardship. It helps poor farmers in Zambales and Mindanao by buying their mangos at high, fair prices, providing development projects like clean water systems in their villages, and providing thousands of fruit tree saplings to them every year for planting. It also mitigates climate change and global warming.
This project provides training in social and family values, leadership training and character formation through seminars, workshops, summer camps, and social projects done by the youth. One of the most successful outcomes is the formation of a theatre group that stages musical dramas with strong social and human content.
