TripleBCare Projects, Inc., headed by Val Smith-Orr, recently conducted an interactive seminar at the Preda Home for Girls during which the staff and children learned burns prevention and proper treatment, and menstrual health education. The menstrual health education session is supported by Days for Girls Australia—a registered Australian not-for-profit organization.

The morning session equipped staff and interns with essential knowledge on burn injuries, their severity, and potential complications. PREDA staff and interns learned the “COOL, CALL, COVER” protocol. They were advised to use flowing tap water (TUBIG LANG PO) as basic first aid for burns except for electrical burns. Common but improper practices such as the use of ice, flour, salt, vinegar or toothpaste on burns were debunked. A question and answer session ensured clarity and understanding. Different kinds of burns were also discussed.

The afternoon session shifted to menstrual health education, a Days for Girls (DfG) initiative, providing residents with crucial knowledge on hygiene, menstrual care, and sustainability. The session included a hands-on workshop on making reusable sanitary pads, discussions on menstrual health, and demonstrations of proper hygiene practices. Residents actively participated in the activities, and DfG kits containing reusable sanitary products were distributed to support their needs. The session also fostered an open discussion, helping break the stigma around menstruation and empowering the girls with confidence and self-sufficiency.

We extend our sincere thanks to Ms. Val, Ms. Hilda, and Ms. Evelyn for the wonderful opportunity to share their expertise with us. TripleBCare Projects, Inc. remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote community health and well-being.
