Preda Home for Boys Helped 106 in 2019

Throughout 2019 the Preda Therapeutic Home for Boys, known as Bukang-Liwayway Center located in Sitio Malipa, Nagbayan, Castillejos, served a total of 106 boys. Thirty of these boys were rescued in sub-standard local government-run Bahay Pag-Asas where they endured inhumane conditions and sometimes physical and sexual abuse. Some of these local government-run facilities have been described by the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC) as “worse than jails.” Many of the children “rescued” by Preda from these facilities arrive at the Bukang-Liwayway Center with skin disease such as scabies and other fungal skin infections, urinary tract infections, and tuberculosis and other respiratory illnesses. Many are pale due to lack of sunlight and are generally of poor health.

On the occasion of Preda’s 46th founding anniversary month, Dr. Rizal G. Salih, vice mayor of the Municipality of Castillejos in Zambales, assisted by volunteer Ian Percival Rosalita, RN conducted on February 23 and 24 medical checks up of all the Preda boys and about 12 girls from the Preda Victoria Children’s Home. This helped the Preda staff to better address the medical needs of the children. The children who were diagnosed with illnesses are now taking medicines that will address their condition.

Again, many thanks to Ian Percival and Doc Rizal G. Salih!
