Preda Child Graduates With Honors

Preda Child Graduates With Honors

Last week, the Philippine Department of Education formally closed school year 2020-2021 with moving-up and graduation ceremonies. We are proud to announce that several Preda children- boys and girls- either presently residing in the Preda Homes or are now reintegrated and receiving educational assistance finished the school year with flying colors despite the difficulties imposed by the pandemic, thanks to all those who supported the Preda Childhood for Children program throughout the years.

One of those who finished the school year is Michaela. In 2017, she was repeatedly sexually abused by her biological father. Without a biological mother to turn to, she reported her ordeal to a teacher whom she trusts. The teacher, acting in accordance with the law and DepEd policy, referred to the local social worker who then referred her to the Preda Foundation for protection and care.

Preda helped Michaella file a legal complaint against her father. She bravely attended the preliminary investigation called by the investigating prosecutor but her abuser did not appear. The case was elevated to the Court and the judge issued an arrest warrant against him.

While at Preda, Michaella exhibited determination to succeed in her studies and in life. She actively participated in all the activities such as non-formal education, values formation and emotional release therapy.

She was reintegrated with a foster mother in Subic in December 2018. Preda Foundation, on the other hand, continued to support her education by sending her monthly school allowance. She also attends online psycho-social sessions organized and conducted by Preda.

Last week she finally graduated from senior high school (Accountancy, Business and Management Strand), with honors!
