Thousands of Filipino women came out in the streets of major Philippine cities on March 8 to demand justice for alleged violations of their basic rights.

The protests, which brought together tribal people affected by military operations in the provinces and families of victims of drug-related killings, were the highlight of this year’s Women’s Day observance.

The women sang, danced, and chanted slogans as they marched to demand justice for victims of killings, housing for the poor, equal rights, among other issues.

They also demanded “justice and accountability” for what they described as the “slaughter of women” under the 21-month-old administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.
