Never give up doing good, I am with you.

Never give up doing good, I am with you.

Welcome back to my story,

My mission and life on Earth was not always a happy one, nor did my mission meet with the approval of all. The elite rich people, the Pharisees, scribes, teachers of the law, and the priests in the temple rejected me and opposed my teaching. They questioned the good I did to uplift the downtrodden people and serve the poor. They accused me of blasphemy, especially when I declared that the poor were close to God and that we all should help bring the poor out of poverty and sickness.

Those opposed to me and my message of social justice and equality believed that my message would transform society, and they would lose power and influence over the people, and they would have a lower status in society.

In today’s world, the authorities are likewise suspicious and make false allegations against my true followers who are helping the poor, the exploited, and the oppressed people. They branded them as subversives, out to change society. If making society more just, inclusive, and loving is a crime, then the nation is heading for disaster. That was my message too.

The authorities in my day declared that the poor, the sick, the disabled, and the beggars were being punished by God for their sins—if not their own, then for the sins of their parents. In this way, they—the rich elite, the politicians, Pharisees, and scribes—belittled the poor and thus justified not helping them and excluding them from society, declaring that they were outcasts, rejected people, and not loved by God.

I totally opposed this and declared the opposite, especially in my Sermon on the Mount. I called for a change of mind and heart of the rich rulers and said that the poor were loved equally by God. This they could not accept. They considered themselves superior in every way, and they detested the poor. They had no love or mercy or compassion. They were proud rulers and believed they were spiritually superior to all others.

I taught the opposite: blessed are they that are humble and know they are spiritually poor. I said, blessed are those that mourn and are sad, and they that do God’s will—God will satisfy their needs. Blessed are the merciful and compassionate, the pure of heart, and those that work for peace—they will possess the Kingdom of God, I declared.

You too are called to take your stand for the truth and justice and never give up helping the poor and the needy, and know that I am with you.

Come again and share this with a friend, Jesus of Nazareth.

Zacchaeus

Zacchaeus in the Bible was a man whose life-changing encounter with Jesus was recorded by Luke (Luke 19:1–10). Zacchaeus was one of the head tax collectors in the region of Jericho, and the Bible says he was a rich man. Jewish tax collectors like Zacchaeus were scorned by their countrymen for a couple of reasons: one, they were known for cheating the taxpayers; and, two, they worked for Rome. The other Jews saw Jewish tax collectors as collaborators with the enemy—traitors to their own people.
