Minors Found in Police Station Released to Parents, Referred to Bahay Pag-Asa

Last 10 September 2019, the Regional Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (RJJWC), of which the Preda Foundation is a member, conducted a spot inspection of Station 6 of the Philippine National Police, Angeles City. During the spot inspection, the RJJWC members including Dixter Yepes, Preda social worker and interns Yanaika Blaakman and Nicole Hazweld, found three minors in the police station. Though they were not detained behind bars, their placement in the police station for two days is a violation of Republic Act 9344 as amended. They too were not provided with their basic needs.

In response, the local social worker of Angeles City immediately referred the two of the minors to the Angeles City Home for Boys for appropriate intervention. The third minor was ordered released to his parents in Mexico, Pampanga where it is hoped he will undergo community-based interventions.
