CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Iligan City is no longer among the top 20 areas in the country with the highest number of Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) cases, local officials announced Wednesday.

Armien Aloro, former head of the City Social Welfare and Development Office and now chief of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, credited the improvement to the creation of the Task Force OSAEC.

The task force, working alongside international organizations such as the International Justice Mission and World Vision, played a significant role in reducing cases.

“Since 2023, there have been 133 convictions handed down by the courts for OSAEC-related cases,” Aloro said.

She added that the city’s anti-OSAEC ordinance and its designation as part of the Tri-City Justice Zone by the Department of Justice and the Supreme Court strengthened the prosecution of offenders.

The task force also provides aftercare interventions to support victims in their recovery and reintegration.

City officials emphasized their commitment to maintaining these gains through sustained collaboration with law enforcement, international partners and the community. (PNA)
