I started my mission when I was 12 years old.

Hello, welcome back to my story.

Many are wondering why I only started my mission to save the world when I reached 33 years? Why not start earlier when I was younger? Well, I did start my mission when I was 12 years old. You will remember I was brought by my parents to Jerusalem and I went to the temple and although children in those days were not recognized as persons with standing or be recognized. Children were of no importance. I remembered that when I was an adult and had something important to say about it.

However, in the temple there were several Rabbis, teachers of the religious law holding readings and discussions in the courtyard. I listened to them and being well versed in the scriptures from reading in the Synagogue in Nazareth with the Rabbis I knew a lot. I was more mature for my age and when one of the Rabbis (teacher) asked a biblical question that no one could answer I spoke up without inhibition or fear and gave a clear answer the Rabbis and their students were shocked and amazed. What is a 12-year-old doing here? they asked. When I asked them questions that they couldn’t answer, they were taken aback and though i was cheeky

Then I answered the questions and they were astounded. That amazed them all the more and they forgot I was a non-person child and asked me many questions about scripture and I answered them all. That is because I had done my homework and understood the scriptures. I saw much room for improvement in the interpenetration and practice of the teaching.

They gave me a mat to sleep on and food with the rabbinical scholars. They treated me with respect because I knew so much and talked face to face with the Rabbis. That was totally unheard of before. That’s when I knew I had a mission, a special task, a challenge to teach and transform society.

I forgot my worried parents who were looking for me around Jerusalem for three days. That was when I discovered my mission to teach and inspire and guide others to change the world to be a better, more just place.

On the outer part of the Temple area, I saw hundreds of hungry beggars, many disabled, and dying from starvation. Then in the inner yard it was now a marketplace and the trading in animals for sacrifice went on. There were senior temple priests there talking with the trader’s doing business.

Their minds and hearts were more on making money than helping the poor and hungry. I grew up surrounded by poverty, everyone was poor except the rich that lived in big houses in an exclusive part of Jerusalem. We did not know we were so poor until we saw their wealth. My father was a skilled carpenter and so was I.

In my early years growing up in Nazareth I had discussion groups at the synagogue most evenings with those that came and many did. Remember there was no radio, television, no books, card games or the like. We only had the scrolls of the scriptures; all were hand copied and of great value. I did all I could to help my neighbors: fixing their furniture for free, helping them work their fields to grow food, then one special day something happened to me and I will share that in my next post.

Come again. Jesus

Zacchaeus

Zacchaeus in the Bible was a man whose life-changing encounter with Jesus was recorded by Luke (Luke 19:1–10). Zacchaeus was one of the head tax collectors in the region of Jericho, and the Bible says he was a rich man. Jewish tax collectors like Zacchaeus were scorned by their countrymen for a couple of reasons: one, they were known for cheating the taxpayers; and, two, they worked for Rome. The other Jews saw Jewish tax collectors as collaborators with the enemy—traitors to their own people.
