Extinction
Shay Cullen

Let us live and share this world where you are many and we so few,
We have lost our forests and our lands, our meadows and our homes,
Why not share the bounty of the earth and we can all survive anew?
Together we can live, and you can write your songs and poems.
We are the creatures of the planet and quickly towards extinction go,
We are fast disappearing and us, you hardly know.
Why not end the plunder and the greed and let us live and give us another chance,
So the birds can sing, animals roam, and peacocks flirt and dance.
Yet there is something wrong, so very wrong, as humans scar the earth,
As trees are cut and fall and poisons bring still birth.
Into the shrinking forest we retreat, and look upon our end,
We were here before humans came and you are not our friend.
We are fewer now than ever, our numbers shrink and die,
You pillage and you burn, you heat the planet, and blacken out the sky.
So we, the creatures of the Earth, will soon be gone, extinct and dead,
You humans will inhabit an empty world, and a barren land will thread.
