Enough is enough: Adern cracks down on child abuse

A Kapiti man has been charged with assault after the death of a six-month-old girl.

And In Christchurch, police are investigating the death of a 15-month-old.

It comes as the Government’s report card on public service targets shows an increase in the numbers of children being assaulted.

So how alarming are these figures and is the Government doing enough?

Labour’s children spokesperson Jacinda Ardern joined Paul Henry this morning to discuss the latest cases.

“It’s not new, the numbers have been bad like this since the 1980s and have never really come down… We continue to ignore doing a lot of that more up-front work. We want extra care and support in these homes before the babies are even born.”
