MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday pardoned the punishments and demerits of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Cadet Corps Class 2022 to 2025.

Duterte signed the pardon during the 43rd Commencement Exercises of the PNPA for Bachelor of Science in Public Safety “Alab-Kalis” Class of 2022 at Camp General Mariano Castañeda in Silang, Cavite.

“I, Rodrigo Roa Duterte, President of the Republic of the Philippines, hereby pardon all outstanding punishments and demerits of the Class 2022, Class 2023, and Class 2024, and Class 2025 of the Cadet Corps of the Philippine National Police Academy, effective today,” the president announced.

According to PNP spokesperson Jean Fajardo, some of the cadets incurred punishments and demerits by committing administrative infractions.

Being late in formation, having an unshined buckle during inspection, and being caught sleeping in class are among the administrative infractions.

“May mga administrative infractions po sila na commit (They committed administrative infractions) and may mga (there are) corresponding demerits po depending on the gravity of the infraction po,” Fajardo told INQUIRER.net in a text message.

“Alab-Kalis” stands for Alagad ng Batas na Kakalinga sa Sinilangang Bayan.

Duterte told the graduates to only do what is right and do not go out of legal parameters.

“Do not go out of your legal parameters. Iyong tama lang na trabaho ng pulis pati alam niya ang obligasyon sa taong-bayan,” he said.

(Only do the right job of the police and he/she knows his/her obligation to the people.)

“We do not have any superiority with anybody. All of us are government workers and are expected really to work for the people,” the president added.

The Alab Kalis Class of 2022 has 229 graduating cadets. Of the figure, 206 are joining the PNP, 12 in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and 11 in the Bureau of Fire Protection.

The 2022 class valedictorian is Police Cadet Ernie Padernilla from Passi City, Iloilo.
