DepEd suspends teacher accused of child abuse

The Department of Education (DepEd), through Director May B. Eclar of Region 3, has ordered on September 13 the filing of formal charges against Alain Malitao, a teacher of Sto. Tomas Elementary School for grave misconduct in relation to the DepEd’s Child Protection Policy and Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 11 series of 2021.

Mr. Malitao is also preventively suspended for 90 days.

The three victims, all elementary students, alleged that Mr. Malitao molested them numerous times during class. The Preda Foundation is representing the victims and their mothers in the administrative case.

“We thank the Schools Division Office of Zambales for their prompt action. We hope that the formal investigation will commence soon and call on the Regional Director of the DepEd to strictly implement its policy of zero tolerance for child abuse. It is by ridding the Department of suspected pedophiles that its officials can protect the good name of DepEd,” says Mr. Francis B. Bermido Jr., president of the Preda Foundation.
