CEBU, Philippines – A British national was arrested while seven women believed to be victims of exploitation, human trafficking and cyber crime were rescued by the National Bureau of Investigation-7 in an operation in a hotel in Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City yesterday afternoon.

According to Arnel Pura, NBI-7 Special Investigator, they began conducting surveillance on Wade Lloyd Allsopp after they received information that the foreigner was bringing minors inside his hotel room.

Base on Allsopp’s immigration record, he arrived in Cebu March this year. According to him, he has visited the Philippines several times already.

Pura said the suspect will be facing three charges for violating Republic Act 9262 or Exploitation on Women and Children, Human Trafficking and Cyber Crime.

Allsopp’s modus allegedly includes taking pictures of women naked and selling them online. If someone would express interest over the pictures, the customer’s payment will be deposited in Allsopp’s bank account.

“Klaro kaayo ang exploitation kay ang one modus man gud sa violation kanang hiring, advertising, procuring victims, gi-exploit ang ilang vulnerabilities particularly sa ilang economic situation,” Pura said.

One of the rescued woman, an 18-year-old and a resident of Cebu, told The Freeman that Allsopp invited them to his room to pose for sexy pictures, but she has not received any payment.

“Kung bago pa lang kayo nagkita, dun kayo magpe-perform (mag-pose ng nude pics)”, she said.

She also said she only met the British national last week and had an idea on the kind of work she would need to do, but still opted to go with him.

Another woman, a 21-year-old, said she has known the foreigner for over a year.

“Wala ko niya gi-picturan nga naghubo, but before nga nag-meet mi yes naay nahitabo, that was 2014 nga wala pa koy trabaho, karon nga naa koy trabaho mo-visit nalang ko niya” said Angel.

For his part, Allsopp said he did not sell the pictures of the women and did not exploit them online.

Allsopp said he invited the women to his room to eat, chat with each other and hangout in his air-conditioned room because, according to him, it’s very hot outside.

“I haven’t ever, and I would never take a single photo or anything to do with exploiting girls or anything like that, I like girls and I tried to advice them the best I can to avoid getting in trouble, to trying avoid getting tattoos, to avoid getting single moms and stuff like that so that they get better future in life,” he said.

He reportedly met the women through a dating website.

Allsopp said he will consult with a lawyer considering that he is very confident that he has done nothing illegal. — (FREEMAN)
