Lord,
I cannot turn away
From the truth
Of the hungry and poor people
In the world
When I have so much.
I will do all I can to help
The abused children
Abused and those abandoned.
I am ashamed, Lord,
I do not share my wealth
As I should.
I remember Your story
Of the rich Dives,
Whose table was loaded with food,
And he would not give anything
To the starving man Lazarus.
Only the dogs licked his sores
To heal him.
But I am determined to do more,
To share from my wealth.
Your sharing of five loaves of bread
And two fish
Inspired five thousand
To share their food.
Help me to be more generous and kind,
To be a better person
And Your friend and helper,
To share what I have
With others in greater need.
Help me make my life
Of greater worth
To others in need,
And I will have done some good
In this world before I depart.
And then You will say to me,
“Welcome into the kingdom prepared for you
from the beginning of the world.”
Amen.
