1,135 new cases push Philippines’ COVID-19 tally over 451,000

The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) tally reached 451,839 on Tuesday after the Department of Health (DOH) announced 1,135 new infections as 13 laboratories failed to submit reports on time.

Rizal recorded the highest number of new cases at 117, followed by Bulacan with 84, Quezon City with 71, Isabela with 39, and Laguna with 38.

The total number of recoveries also rose to 418,867 after 173 more patients recovered from the respiratory disease, while the death toll also climbed to 8,812 with 56 new fatalities.

“Moreover, 20 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths,” the DOH added.

There are also 24,160 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.

The government earlier elevated restrictions in Isabela to a general community quarantine until the end of the year to arrest the spread of COVID-19.

The Philippines will also conduct a dry run for face-to-face classes in select schools from January 11 to 23 in 2021.

Meanwhile, police warned the public that those who will be caught attending parties over the holiday season would be arrested. —LDF, GMA News
