DOJ indicts woman over daughter’s sex videos

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) has recommended the filing of complaints for qualified trafficking and sexual abuse against a woman who allegedly sold online the live sexual videos of her minor daughter.

In a resolution dated May 9, the DOJ said charges of violating Republic Act 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act and RA 11930, the Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children Act, will be filed against the woman.

Under the law, qualified trafficking in persons is a non-bailable offense.

The woman was arrested on May 7 at her house in Mabalacat City, Pampanga by members of the Philippine National Police-Women and Children Protection Center (PNP-WCPC).

During the police operation, the woman was caught showing her daughter’s naked body while taking a bath, for customers to watch online in exchange for $50.

The DOJ said the woman conducted the live show through the messaging application Skype in violation of RA 11930.

Police also rescued her children ages 12, five and three during the operation.

The justice department said the PNP-WCPC has been investigating the woman since December 2023 after learning about her illegal activities on her Skype account that used a different name.

“The government will never relent in fighting those who exploit children,” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said.

The other criminal charges filed against the woman in connection with her two other children were set for preliminary investigation on May 23 and 30.
